Islanders are also famous for their ivory carvings. There are no formal lodgings on the island other than to pitch a tent or to stay with a local, but there are lodgings in Nome, Alaska. on the mainland, across the sea.

Hotel Polaris

The Hotel Polaris is the only place that's affordable in this neck of the woods. It's basic, not so clean, but friendly--in a word, it's a roof over your head in the cold nights. There's a bar in the hotel and a convenience store next door.
