The state's official travel and tourism website (http://www.michigan.org) also notes that nature lovers can enjoy viewing more than 100 different species of trees while visiting the Wolverine State's 99 state park and recreation areas.

Horseshoe Lake Campground

Horseshoe Lake Campground offers outdoor enthusiasts panoramic views all along its 1,250 feet of shoreline. The facility is open year-round and has boat, canoe and paddle boat rentals in addition to plenty of fishing and swimming.

River Country Campground

River Country Campground is located between Wolfe Creek and Michigan's longest river, the Muskegon, in Evart, Michigan. The campground has canoe, kayak and tube rentals. Anglers can try their luck fishing for rainbow and brown trout in the stretch of the Muskegon near Evart. Other portions of the river are home to bass, walleye, muskie and pike.

Beaver Trail Campground

With an abundance of hiking, swimming and canoeing opportunities, Beaver Trail Campground in West Branch, Michigan has something for every outdoor lover. A boat ramp provides access to Clear Lake, which is about a mile from the campground and is open year-round.
