New Jersey has over 700 beaches along the Atlantic shoreline. With so many beaches, it's difficult to single out any particular beach, but here's a list of some of the best New Jersey beaches for outdoor activities and family fun. New Jersey beaches ranked tenth in the United States for cleanliness, according to a 2009 NRDC (Natural Resource Defense Council) study.

Avalon Beach

Avalon Beach was voted the "best beach in New Jersey" by "The Washingtonian" magazine in 2008. Avalon offers many things, including a boardwalk, fishing, surfing and rafting. Avalon beach is nestled in Cape May County. Parking is free and beach access is $6 daily, $12 weekly or $24 for the entire season. Children 12 and under enter free.

Asbury Park

Asbury Park Beach is located in Monmouth County. Parking is always free, and beach access is $5 per day or $50 for season access. Asbury Park has many convenient access points and an attractive boardwalk filled with food, fun and shopping.

Beach Haven

Beach Haven is located in Ocean County. Although it has no boardwalk, it is an excellent beach for a family vacation. Beach Haven came in ninth place in the "Top New Jersey Beaches" study in 2008 by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium. Parking is free. Beach access is $5 daily or $20 for the entire season. Children 12 and under and adults 65 and older enter free.

Belmar Beach in Monmouth County has numerous access points and excellent amenities. Belmar has a lively boardwalk, fishing and scuba diving. Children under 15 enter free; adults pay $7 for daily access or $50 for the entire season. Senior citizens pay $15 for season access, and military members enter free.

Ocean City Beach, located in Cape May County, has a number of attractions, including a 2.5-mile boardwalk, fishing, surfing and rafting. Ocean City Beach was voted the "best beach in New Jersey" in a 2009 study by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium. The same study also named it the "best beach for ecotourism" and the "best beach for day trips."

Point Pleasant Beach is nestled in Ocean County. The beach has three primary access points: River Avenue, Maryland Avenue and Bradshaw Avenue. Daily passes start at $6 for adults, although children 11 and under enter free. Season access passes are $90. Public parking is free, but more private parking is available than public parking.

Wildwood Beach is loaded with amenities, including a boardwalk with shower access and plenty of public restrooms. Beach access is free year-round, although parking is metered. Wildwood Beach is located in Cape May County. Wildwood Beach came in third place in the "Best New Jersey Beaches" study sponsored by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium.
