List of Penang Hotels

The Wandering Angel: Flickr.com

Located off the northwest coast of Malaysia, Penang Island offers jungles, beach resorts and the sophisticated city of Georgetown. It combines Malay, Chinese and East Indian cultures that frequently communicate with each other and tourists using the English language. Americans can visit for up to 3 months with only a passport and no visa.

Cititel

Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Georgetown, this business hotel offers walking access to historical and cultural sights such as the English cemetery and the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. It's also near the shops of Campbell Street and nightlife of Penang Road. Cititel offers a pool, business center with Internet access and gym. The hotel's three restaurants may seem expensive at $10 for buffets compared to the $3 meals that are available at eateries around the block.

Hotel Mingood

Barely 2,000 feet from Cititel, the Hotel Mingood offers downtown convenience for about $25, which includes free Wireless Internet access and a breakfast of cereal, toast, milk and fruit. The rate is current as of 2009.

Rooms are quite basic, but each room does have air-conditioning, private bath, TV and fridge. The hotel is generally clean, but you should feel free to ask to see the room before finalizing any arrangements. At these prices, don't expect any amenities beyond a rooftop patio, but you have all the restaurants and nightlife of downtown to keep you amused.

A golf course awaits visitors. There are also water activities like fishing, canoeing and snorkeling. A free shuttle can take you into Georgetown as well.

The resort's justifiably famous Chi Spa boasts several massage and skin treatments as well as classes in yoga and meditation. Outdoor showers dot the 30 acres of extensive gardens.
