Glacier National Park in Montana is one of the most spectacular summer destinations in all of the continental U.S. for wilderness backpacking and other outdoor recreation. Although there are a variety of hotels and other accommodation options within the park, there are also several wonderful hotels just outside, both in wilderness locations and in the historic and scenic town of Whitefish that offer great proximity and many unique features. For those who want to save money, there are also a variety of cheap hotels and motels in the vicinity of Colombia Falls, just outside of the park's west entrance.

St. Mary Lodge and Resort

Located just outside of Glacier National Park's east entrance and very near the Going-to-the-sun road, the St. Mary is a popular choice for visitors to the area. The St. Mary Lodge and Resort has 22 rooms and unique accommodation options, like authentic teepees, as well as a full service restaurant and bar. The St. Mary's Grocery Store & Gas Station, adjacent to the hotel, is also the best place to stock up on supplies before heading into the park.

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake

Built like a grand old timber chalet, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake is located right on Whitefish lake within the fun and attractive town of Whitefish. The lodge offers hotel suites and lakefront condominiums as well as a private beach and a full service spa. The town of Whitefish hosts a number of summer concerts and festivals on the lake that can easily be attended by those staying at the lodge.

Kandahar Lodge

The Kandahar Lodge is also located in the town of Whitefish, near the awesome ski slopes of Big Mountain. With hotel rooms, studios and lofts as well as an executive suite and the Cafe Kandahar restaurant and bar, the Kandahar lodge is well equipped to handle an extended stay. The lodge is a skin in location, meaning you simply walk across the parking lot to the slopes and catch the shuttle back up. Glacier National park is located just 24 miles east of Whitefish, and the town itself has several nightlife venues including a micro-brew pub.
