The Best French Restaurants in Geneva, Illinois

The Best French Restaurants in Geneva, Illinois
The western Chicago suburb of Geneva sits at the center of a network of excellent bicycle rail trails, such as the Illinois Prairie Path and the Fox River Trail, that serve the recreational needs of residents and visitors. In addition, the scenic Fox River runs right through the center of town -- perfect for canoeing. If you want to stay on land, take advantage of the many parks and trails along the banks for running, cycling, strolling or picnicking. When you're finished outside, you've got lots of options for dining. Steaks, American and Italian fare predominate in this Midwestern locale, but aficionados of French cuisine have several excellent choices for their repast.

Suzette's Creperie

A little to the east of Geneva, in Wheaton, you'll find the charming Suzette's Creperie. Starting from a mobile crepe stand, the eponymous Suzette founded her sit-down restaurant in 2000, and has expanded to a larger, but still cozy, establishment since. Suzette's earns high marks from customers for delicious dishes and excellent variety.

You can stop in at Suzette's for lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or brunch. If you're in the area for a while, check the schedule for her popular cooking classes.

Le Berry Bistro

A stalwart to the restaurant scene in Geneva is Le Berry Bistro. Recently voted "Best Brunch" and "Best Outside Eating" in West Suburban Living magazine, Le Berry Bistro isn't resting on their laurels, but is engaged in an expansion and updating of the property in 2009, to include a new, larger bar and expanded seating.

For now, the deck seating on the upper floor of Le Berry offers a pleasant way to enjoy a meal while people watching in downtown Geneva. You can dine with lunch or dinner on Tuesdays through Saturday, with brunch on Sunday. The menu is an attractive fusion of provincial and new-school French cuisine--comfort food with a continental twist.

Cocoa Bean

You can't think French cuisine without thinking about pastries. Cocoa Bean, on 7th Street, offers outstanding croissants and other pastries, both for take out and eating in. An enticing pastry and a cup of coffee is an excellent way to start your explorations of charming downtown Geneva or to fuel up before you hit the roads on your bike. Better yet, make it a stop halfway through the ride!

For heartier fare, check out Cocoa Bean for lunch or brunch, and enjoy their offerings of quiche, soup and panini, and don't forget to top off the meal with a chocolate treat.
