The area around Pigeon Forge, Tenn., is a mecca for hikers and nature lovers, featuring access to the Appalachian Trail, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and activities for all seasons. The location offers scenic views, several local rivers and backcountry camping. Students of wildlife will find something of value, whether their areas of interest include plants, animals, birds or insects.

Pine Mountain RV Park

Pine Mountain provides water, sewer and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp), along with cable television and high-speed wireless Internet. It has both pull- through and back-in sites. Each site has a concrete pad, picnic table and fire ring. The park features a pool, snack bar and public restrooms. The showers are tiled, and a laundry facility is available to campers.

The park is located near Little Pigeon River, which has kayaking, rafting and a number of hiking trails with opportunities for wildlife viewing and birdwatching. Seasonal attractions include changing leaves and wildflowers of spring.

Clabough's Campground and RV Park

Clabough's promotes a quiet camp setting with all the amenities RV travelers may need. A market and restaurant are located on the park grounds. The park provides clean bathing facilities with tiled showers. Most sites have a concrete patio, each site has a picnic table and pull through. Shaded and creekside sites are available. Cable, Wi-Fi, water, electric and sewage are offered. Small pets are allowed, and laundry facilities and two swimming pools are available to campers.

Educational outdoor activities take place within the Great Smoky Mountain National Park nearby. Walk through old growth forest or view one of the many waterfalls along Little River. Many birds on the Species of Concern list frequent the area. The bioluminescent show of synchronous fireflies can be seen in the park in summer.

Creekside RV Park

Creekside is minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, alongside Walden Creek. It offers free cable and Wi-Fi. Pull-through and creekside sites are available. Cool off in the swimming pool, or go wading in the creek. A camp store, laundry facilities and bathing facilities (heated and air conditioned) are provided and pets are welcome.

The nearby national park has large species of wildlife on view--from bears to elk. Hikers and backpackers can enjoy 800 miles of trails, which vary from easy day trips to tough back-country journeys. Bicycling paths and horse trails are well-maintained. Picnic near a waterfall or investigate the diverse local plants, trees and shrubs.
