Famous Upper Michigan Bars

Famous Upper Michigan Bars
Outdoor adventurers have long admired Michigan's Upper Peninsula for its grand scenery, famous natural landmarks, miles of panoramic hiking trails, abundant boating and water activities and winter recreational opportunities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Historic establishments abound as well, not the least of which are the bars and taverns frequented by patrons for more than a century. Among the patrons includes author/drinker Ernest Hemingway, whose Nick Adams stories were inspired by the natural wonders and majestic sights of Upper Michigan.

City Park Grill

Located in Petoskey, Mich., the historic City Park Grill sits just minutes from Lake Michigan. Built in 1875, this fabled establishment was a favorite watering hole of author Ernest Hemingway, who reportedly derived much inspiration here for several of his short stories. Featuring premium wines and imported beers, City Park Grill also offers a fine dining menu.

Bobby's Bar

Part of the historic Grand Hotel built in 1887, Bobby's Bar resembles a Bavarian chalet with its stag-horn decorations, stenciled floors and checkered tablecloths. Serving up casual cuisine and selections from the hotel's award-winning wine list, the bar features one of the oldest duckpin bowling alleys in the United States. Patrons can ride a carriage from the splendid main lobby of the Grand Hotel to Bobby's seven nights a week.
