List of Ski Resorts in Maine

List of Ski Resorts in Maine
Maine celebrates winter the way some states do summer. Regional festivals of the season include the Snodeo and International Snowmobile Festival. The Ski Maine Association provides information on snow depth and live feeds from trail cameras throughout the mountain areas, along with a list of upcoming events. The many mountains offer variable terrains and challenges, with most resorts providing runs for everyone from beginners to advanced practitioners.

Big Squaw Mountain

At the edge of the Great North Woods, Big Squaw Mountain provides 33 trails of skiing and striking scenery--from Mount Katahdin (the highest point in the state) to the sheer cliffs of Mount Kineo to 40-mile-long Moosehead Lake. Sel Hannah, a world famous designer of ski trails, helped to create these aesthetically pleasing runs, with options suitable for every skill level evenly split across the acreage. A fully stocked ski shop is located on-site. With snowmaking an option on 70 percent of the course and a fully natural snowcover on the upper mountain, Big Squaw also has 1,750 feet of vertical drop and 400 acres of skiing available. A hotel and two base lodges serve the facility, where the season runs from late in November to April.

Black Mountain

Black Mountain has both Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding and tubing. The facility offers ski lessons and hosts a number of events and races. The Edge Tubing Park provides several chutes and a convenient handle tow. The resort serves Olympic skiers and their Nordic facilities were designed by a two-time Olympian. Black Mountain welcomes all skill levels, with 17 km of trails (groomed when possible), a spectator bridge and snowshoeing along the Nordic course. A 1,150 foot vertical drop is ready for Alpine skiing and snowboarding. Night skiing is allowed on a lit course. Twenty trails and a 300-foot half pipe with 12 foot walls are just some of the attractions of the resort.
