Hotels in the Disney Resort Area of Florida

Hotels in the Disney Resort Area of Florida
The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. offers dozens of accommodation options for a wide range of styles and tastes. Three such resorts are designed specifically with outdoor enthusiasts in mind. These resorts pair proximity to the Disney theme parks with an outdoorsy, natural feel and opportunities for outdoor activities.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge offers all the features expected from a quality Disney hotel: rooms decorated to match the theme, a massive (11,000-square-foot) pool and four dining options. Nature enthusiasts find more to love in this hotel, as it offers 24-hour views of African wildlife.

Three 10-acre savannas surround the lodge. Arusha Rock, an elevated viewing platform near the main lobby, provides sweeping views of animals such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and several bird species. Guests can also view animals from windowed alcoves throughout the hotel. Through special animal programs, guests experience up-close encounters with African animals.

Other amenities include a massage and fitness center, playground, arcade, shopping, children's activity center and transportation to and from all Disney parks.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Disney's Wilderness Lodge was designed especially for outdoor adventure enthusiasts. The architecture gives a rustic, log cabin feel. Trees and flowers surround the grounds. Fire Rock Geyser, modeled after Yellowstone's Old Faithful, shoots a 120-foot spout every hour on the hour.

Outdoor adventure enthusiasts can rent bicycles, jog a forested trail, go fishing, spend a day at the beach or rent an array of watercraft---pontoon boat, canopy boat or Sea Raycer. The hotel's swimming pools match the outdoor theme. Silver Creek Springs starts as a bubbling spring in the lobby, flows out to the courtyard, and finishes as a 15-foot waterfall cascading into the swimming pool.

Other hotel amenities include four dining options, a large lodge area with fireplace and nightly sing-a-longs, arcade, playground, fitness center and "cubs' den" childcare center.

Disney's Fort Wilderness

Disney's Fort Wilderness provides an alternative to hotel accommodation. Set on over 700 acres of forested land, Fort Wilderness allows outdoor enthusiasts to choose where they sleep: cabins, campers or tents.

Regardless of accommodation type, all Fort Wilderness guests have access to guided horseback tours, a 2.3-mile jogging trail, fishing, bicycle rental and outdoor sports (tennis, volleyball, basketball and tetherball).

Dining options include two restaurants, a tavern and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review dinner show. As a campground, Fort Wilderness also allows for self-catering and has two trading posts with groceries and camping supplies.
