Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is a popular scenic destination for outdoor enthusiasts that is served by hotels located near Burns Harbor, Indiana. You can go bird watching, hike up Mount Baldy or bike up the Calumet Bike Trail. The dunes offer plenty of sand to build sand castles with your kids. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular winter activities.

Springhouse Inn

The Springhouse Inn is two miles away from Burns Harbor. Each of its 50 large rooms has a patio or balcony. Room amenities include a refrigerator, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, desk, microwave, cable TV with HBO and free wireless Internet access. Some rooms on the first floor have whirlpools. There is no elevator. The combination library and meeting room has card and board games, books and magazines, wingback chairs and a huge see-through brick fireplace. The meeting room doubles as a restaurant for breakfast. Along with standard continental breakfast fare, the inn serves biscuits and gravy. The indoor pool area features lounges and chairs, tall potted plants, a dry sauna and hot tub. The sitting rooms have wicker furniture and two walls of windows. Numerous restaurants are located nearby. The inn does not allow pets. Take your fishing gear so you can walk the half-mile to Indian Springs Park and fish at Pratt Lake.

Country Inn & Suites by Carlson

Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, in Portage, Indiana, is 2.5 miles from the city center of Burns Harbor. Rooms include a 27-inch TV with HBO, iron, ironing board, coffee maker, microwave, hair dryer, refrigerator and Tempur-Pedic bed. Newspapers, local telephone calls and high-speed Internet access are free. Standard rooms come with two queens or one king bed. Suites have a sofa bed and another TV. Family suites feature a dining table and chairs, and two bedrooms with additional TVs. Sunroom suites have a whirlpool, plasma TV and fireplace. The Days Inn in Portage is three miles from Burns Harbor and 45 minutes from Chicago. This lodging does not allow pets in its 111 rooms. Nonsmoking rooms are available. Local telephone calls and high-speed Internet service are free. Room amenities include a desk, recliner, AM/FM alarm clock radios, cable TV and coffee maker. Days Inn serves a continental breakfast and has a large indoor heated pool and hot tub. The guest laundry is helpful if you stay longer than a few days and want to wash your clothes after hiking at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park.
