What Hotels Did Hurricane Ike Damage in Holguin, Cuba?
Holguín is the capital city of the northeastern province of the same name in the country of Cuba. Holguín is an area where lovely mountains work their way down to white sand beaches. Punta Lucrecia--located in the Holguín province--is the location where Category 3 Hurricane Ike first came ashore, battering Cuba with a brutal storm surge and winds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Most of the damage involved roofs being torn away, power lines being toppled and flooding.

Club Amigo Atlantico reopened with renovations including a new kitchen, lobby and buffet restaurant. It's an all-inclusive hotel. On the water, you may enjoy pedal boats, or swim-diving classes are provided. On land, try your hand at tennis or archery. The restaurants of the complex feature healthy cuisine with a focus on fresh fruit juices, fruits and salads.

Sol Rio De Luna Y Mares

Sol Rio De Luna Y Mares received a large amount of tree and vegetation damage in the hurricane, but the resort is working to restore the area. This hotel is also all-inclusive, with an almost limitless list of activities. Swim or try an aqua aerobics class. Take a bike ride; join one of the resort's ecological tours. Experience the power and beauty of the ocean as you kayak or sail, windsurf or snorkel. After your activities, get a massage or relax in the sauna. The resort's restaurants offer healthy cuisine options. The Reserva Ecologica Las Guanas is near the hotel, and birdwatchers will want to see the bird sanctuary and explore the small zoo and lagoon.

Brisas Covarrubias

The Brisas Covarrubias replaced glass and furniture damaged in the hurricane; it rebuilt its beach grill and towel hut. It provides access to water sports of all kinds. You may opt to swim, snorkel and scuba dive; try your hand at piloting a catamaran, canoe or kayak. Participate in tennis, volleyball or soccer. The hotel offers fitness facilities as well.
