Minnesota has over 70 official state parks throughout the state. Exploring these parks gives you a chance to see Mother Nature at her best. Starting with the spectacular natural water features such as falls, rivers, ponds and lakes to the amazing trails for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding or winter sports--you will never tire of the beauty.

Gooseberry Falls State Park

Gooseberry Falls State Park is considered the "gateway to the North Shore" with its ideal position on the shores of Lake Superior. Visited for the rocky ravine, impressive waterfalls, native wildlife and the historic Civilian Conservation Corps stone and log buildings, it provides the outdoorsman with plenty to discover. Park facilities, services and trails include 69 campsites (no electric), three group camps, one kayak campsite, dump station, picnic areas, two enclosed shelters, winter warming house, theater room, visitor center, nature store, naturalist programs, historic site, gift shop, hiking trails, paved bike trails, mountain bike trails, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in winter.

Fort Snelling State Park

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city at this nearby sanctuary located in the metro area of the Twin Cities. Fort Snelling State Park has a number of things to do all year round and its trails are connected to the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the Minnehaha Park trails. The only drawback is this park is a day-use only park with no camping. Park facilities, services and activities include two picnic areas, two picnic shelters, playground, volleyball, 9-hole golf course, warming house, fishing pier, swimming beach, boat access, interpretive exhibits, visitor center, historic site, tours, gift shop, canoe rentals, fishing, hiking trails, paved bike trails, mountain bike trails, cross country skiing trails, snowshoeing and numerous events throughout the year.

Maplewood State Park

Located in the northwest area of Minnesota under 10 miles east of Pelican Rapids, Maplewood State Park has a lot to offer in the way of activities and scenery. Water enthusiasts can choose from eight main lakes and a variety of ponds throughout this area offering plenty of things to do in and around the water. This region also has a large variety of birds and mammals. Park facilities, services and activities include 71 drive-in campsites, 32 campsites w/electricity, three backpack campsites, 24 horse campsites, one group camp, two cabins, showers, flush toilets, dump station, picnic area, picnic shelter, warming house, fishing pier, swimming beach, two boat accesses, interpretive exhibit, gift shop, boat and canoe rentals, self-guided trail, hiking trails, horse trails, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in winter.
