Keen Targhee II Mid Hiking Boots - Men's

Keen Targhee II waterproof day hikers deliver tenacious traction, stability and comfort. Waterproofed nubuck leather and flexible nylon mesh uppers offer ample durability, flexibility and breathability for comfort on the go. Midheight cuff offers support to help protect ankles from injury. Secure-fit lace capture system with sturdy nylon webbing eyelets and heel wrap help lock feet to footbeds for increased support. Webbing pull loops at heel and tongue allow easy entry/exit; padded, gusseted tongue keeps out debris and moisture while relieving lace pressure. KEEN.DRY™ waterproof breathable membranes keep feet dry while allowing perspiration to dissipate before it saturates the inside of the shoe. Patented rubber Toe Guards protect feet and uppers from impacts and abrasion. Substantial Metatomical EVA footbeds are shaped to provide ample cushioning and arch support; can also accommodate orthotics. Compression-molded EVA midsoles offer shock-absorption and padding for all-day comfort. Supportive nylon shanks provide torsional stability and protection from uneven terrain. Nonmarking carbon rubber outsoles with aggressive 4mm multidirectional lugs for durability and traction. Fit tip: runs about a 1/2 size small.

Excellent toe room

I tend to have trouble with most hiking shoes and boots that are too narrow in the toe area. This boot has a nice squared-off toe that provides enough extra room to avoid crowding. So far I have been able to keep a good fit by tightening the laces around the ankle enough that the foot doesn't slip forward on steep descents, but there is some side rolling that I can't seem to fix (probably because my feet aren't as wide as these shoes are made to accommodate). I would say that if you have a wider foot or feel like your to

Painful

My wife bought me these boots while we were in the long island store the sales man showed us these since I have a wide (EE) foot in the store they felt fine once we were out hiking in a PA state park my left foot started to burn and my heel was on fire . The sole was so soft you could feel a frozen pea . When I took them off my foot was killing me after trying them on 3 more times with the same results i returned them and REI took them back and was very helpful with advise on getting a different pair . I am a heavy weight so maybe a liter pers

comfy boots, terrible grip

these are nice boots, very comfy. HOWEVER The ankle support is not great but most of all the grip is terrible - i found myself struggling to stand up on some surfaces including damp side walks! I would try a different keen model - check the grip looks nice a sharp!

Great customer service

Tried on every size 15 mid hiker at the store, and they had several. Just a very comfortable, good looking boot. My feet are a

Not for a heavy hiker/backpacker

I wanted to like them at first site, they are light and have all the makings for a secure and comfortable fit, BUT the weight must have been sacrificed from the mid sole. You can feel every lug and contour of the sole even sitting with feet flat on the ground. Because of the sole height and narrow sole footprint, if you are not cinched up tight your ankles will roll!

Not suitable for rock scrambling

Bought these 8 months ago. I have backpacked about 200 miles in them. The hard rubber sole is torn from the soft, running shoe type upper sole in several places. Took them to the Ouachita trail, Ozark Highland Trail and Colorado trail. The sole should not be torn away after this small amount of use. The grip is ok on slick rocks and the sole feels comfortable on rock. My heels never bruised. However; I purchased these one full size larger than my runners. Still got black toe twice, even using surgeons knot on

good for the price

I tried on all the top boots for backpacking, i wanted something better than what i had, i have big feet, and there are not a lot of choices out there, also, all the $250+ boots, were to narrow and had a high arch, i have flat feet, so a high arch hurts, the keens are no way better made than the others, but for flat feet, size 14's,(needed 15's in the keens to fit right) they work good, i still want something better, these might last the year walking the 8 miles each way home in the rain forest, is all i ever got from the h

Boots Fell Apart

I wore these on a 12 day backpacking trip in New Mexico that covered over 100 miles. Many of the treads were falling off, they cause sore legs, they never dried out from my sweat, and I got a number of blisters on each foot in the same spots. I would not buy these again.

Good Boots

These boots did not require any break in time. They have a roomy toe box. I trained with a 30 lbs pack doing 3 miles walks and I took them on a 32 miles 5 day trip in the south si

comfortable, worried about durability

this felt great from the first day but I am already seeing the tread coming loose after 2-3 days of climbing on rocks and average hiking. I love how they fit and feel with the wide toe box. The durability is a worry and I am already thinking I will need some shoe goo to keep them together.

LoraxPCT2012 – 2013-06-19
Comfortable for <450mi

I used these for most of my PCT through-hike. They were comfortable right out of the box and stayed that way for about 400 miles (20 days). Then, with all 3 pairs, at 400-450 miles in the sole got lumpy to the point of being unwearable. The interior lining also wore away quickly in the heel, causing blistering on even my hoof-like

comfortable but mediocre otherwise

Comfortable fit. Waterproofing seems to work reasonable well. The laces are too thin and I replaced them because they tangled. The soles wear out quickly and are slick in some hiking conditions. An ok overall shoe, but overpriced.

Most comfortable boots I've ever owned

I bought these at an REI store a couple of days before a weekend backpacking trip in the Appalachians. In other words, I committed the cardinal sin of not breaking in my boots before tramping up and down mountains with a heavy pack on my back. Fortunately for me, these boots fit perfectly and required no break in, quite to my surprise. I've never had even a small blister with these boots, and my feet always feel great after taking long hikes in them. I've hiked in them in both hot and cold weather, in wet

Warm and Dry

Bought these for light hiking and wearing around cubscout camp. Rained all weekend and my feet were the only things warm and dry the whole time. Great pair of boots!

Comfortable but not really durable.

Very comfortable shoe for one with wide feet or with bunions. Good ankle support without putting too much constraint on ankle movement. Good for cross country travel; heavy enough for on-trail back packing. The only down side is that
