Bracketeded by the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, the state of Iowa lies in the center of the great Midwest. Although the popular perception of the state might be of islands of industrial districts separated by an endless ocean of corn fields, Iowa actually is actually home to many fine trails, from Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Waterloo in the east all the way through Des Moines in central Iowa to Sioux City in the west.
Iowa has a great collection of State Forests ideal for hiking or mountain biking through. In the northeast you'll find Yellow River State Forest, in the southeast you'll fine Shimek State Forest, in the Southwest is massive Stephens State Forest, and in the northwest of the state is Loess Hills State Forest.
