How to Find Passport Applications in Austria

code1name: sxc.hu

If you are an Austrian citizen or the child of an Austrian citizen, you are eligible to apply for a passport in Austria. An Austrian passport will allow you to access countless countries around the world and let you enjoy your travel adventures. With a burgundy Austrian passport in hand, you will be able to visit any country in the world with the knowledge that your passport will be accepted and you will be allowed into the country to enjoy your travels.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Proof of citizenship Passport photo Identification
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Passport photo
  • Identification
Step 1
Secure proof of citizenship. Before you can fill out an Austrian passport application, you will need to prove that you are, in fact, an Austrian citizen. If you were born in Austria, this should be simple; you can just present your birth certificate when you go in to get your passport application. If, however, you are an Austrian born overseas to an Austrian parent or parents, you will need to provide documentation of your parentage and your birth to demonstrate that you qualify for an Austrian passport.
Step 2
Pick up an Austrian passport application. If you are living abroad, the Austrian embassy closest to you should offer passport applications. Unfortunately, because Austrian passports require that you are fingerprinted when you apply, it is difficult to apply for an Austrian passport through the mail. For Austrian-Americans, the Austrian embassy in Washington, D.C., is the only location authorized to accept passport applications. If you are living in Austria, you can pick up Austrian passport applications at your local Passport Center. Check with local authorities or the postal service to find the Passport Center closest to you.
Step 3
Provide all the proper documentation. It is important that you come equipped with proof of citizenship, proof of residency, identification and two passport photos. Make sure that your application is complete before going into the Passport Center to make sure that your passport application will be as simple as possible. Because Austria recently implemented a biometric passport system, be aware that you will be fingerprinted when you apply for a passport.
Step 4
Check to make sure that you will not need an additional visa for the country you are traveling to in addition to your Austrian passport.
