How to Change or Cancel Airline Tickets

How to Change or Cancel Airline Tickets
Canceling or changing your airline tickets is a very simple process, although it is an expensive one. When canceling an airline ticket, you are not likely to get a refund. In addition, when changing your existing airline tickets, you are likely to pay up to several hundreds of dollars for the adjustments. Requesting a refund never hurts, however. Be sure to mention if you have a medical reason for changing or canceling your flight, as some airlines are sympathetic to those situations.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Call the airlines that your flight is booked through (see Resources).
Step 2
Explain to the ticket agent that you need to cancel or change your reservation. If you need to change your tickets, tell the agent what you would like to change your flight date to.
Step 3
Ask for a full or partial refund of the ticket price. You're not likely to get a refund, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Step 4
Pay any applicable fees. You will not have fees for canceling your flight, but you may need to pay a fee for changing your flight days or times.

Tips & Warnings

If you purchased your tickets through a travel agent of an online vendor, the process is the same. You just call your travel agent or the online customer service support team to make the changes or cancellation.
