everal airline companies offer tickets at variable prices. The best traveler compares prices before making a purchase. This helps you find the cheapest price, the quickest route and a flight time that fits your schedule. Comparing airline ticket prices can be done online. Several websites offer comparison pages, but Travelocity is a popular site that has a long-term history with travelers. It's free to use and intuitive for even a new user.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Open a browser window, and navigate to Travelocity.com. The first page that opens is the form where ticket prices can be compared.
Step 2
Select "Flight Only" from the left side of the form. Enter the location of the city from which you will leave and the location of the airport for your destination. Finally, chose the dates on which you want to depart and return. When you have entered all the information, click the "Search" button.
Step 3
Wait a few minutes while the system looks for ticket prices. If it's a popular time of the year, like a holiday, it may take longer to retrieve the information. Once the system is finished, a list of ticket prices are shown.
Step 4
View the list of flights for the dates you chose. Underneath the flight list is a price for hotel accommodations and the plane ticket. Occasionally, discounts on package deals are available for plane tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals.
Step 5
Change the date of the flights to evaluate better pricing. Some days are more expensive to fly than others. You can save hundreds of dollars by changing dates and experimenting with the prices on Travelocity. Traveling during holidays is much more costly than traveling a week or two prior to the holiday date.
Step 6
When you've decided, click the link for your ticket package. This starts the process of purchasing the tickets.

Tips & Warnings

Baggage fees are not included with ticket prices.
