How to Get Cheap Bus Tickets

For outdoor enthusiasts, buses have a lot of advantages over planes. They are more environmentally friendly, have more flexible schedules and often can get you closer to remote nature areas than planes can. Best of all, traveling by bus is a lot cheaper.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Locate a discount bus company that drives your route. Regional bus companies such as BoltBus and Chinatown Bus, often offer much cheaper fares than national carriers such as Greyhound.
Step 2
Take advantage of any discount you qualify for. Many buses will give discounts for seniors, students, active military, veterans or children.
Step 3
Book your tickets early and online. Companies such as Greyhound offer special online discounts, and many bus companies offer lower rates for earlier tickets.
Step 4
Shop for the cheapest fares. Online bus ticket agents such as NeoTravel and GotoBus allow you to research rates and schedules.
Step 5
Buy a bus pass. If you regularly travel on a particular bus line, you may be able to save with a monthly pass that allows you to take as many trips as you want for a set price.
