How to Make Homemade Trout Fishing Bait

Go to the tackle shop and you will find all kinds of magic bait for trout in jars, bags and on cards. One of the best all-around baits for trout is just plain old box cheese, but some fishermen are a little more creative and like to "kick it up a notch". Here is a sure fire trout buster made from simple ingredients found at home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • 1/2 cup Velveeta cheese 1/4 cup molasses 2 garlic cloves 1 cup oatmeal Wax paper
  • 1/2 cup Velveeta cheese
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • Wax paper
Step 1
Remove the skin of the garlic cloves and chop the garlic into very small pieces. You can also use a food grinder for this step.
Step 2
Put the cheese in a microwave-safe container and heat until the cheese is very soft.
Step 3
Mix in 1/4 cup of molasses and 2 finely chopped garlic cloves.
Step 4
Slowly add 1 cup of oatmeal as you mixm until the dough is the consistency of cold peanut butter.
Step 5
Roll the dough between your palms to make balls about the size of a nickel. Lay the balls on a sheet of wax paper and put in the freezer.
Step 6
Put the balls into a container and keep them in the freezer until the next fishing trip.
Step 7
Put a piece of wax paper between the layers in the bowl to ease in getting them out when you get to the stream.

Tips & Warnings

Make enough balls for several containers while you have the kitchen in a mess.
