Pop Up Tent Folding Instructions

Pop Up Tent Folding Instructions

authors photo

Pop-up tents come in a variety of sizes and styles and are convenient whether you are backpacking or on a family camping trip. Folding any tent can be frustrating, including a pop-up. But by following a few tips, you should have yours folded and packed away inside of its bag in no time. If your pop-up is larger, working with two people might make the folding process easier, but you can still accomplish it by yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Broom Towel

Step 1
Take down your pop-up tent, removing all the poles and stakes. Place your stakes inside the bag and fold your poles down to their smallest size.
Step 2
Pack the outer portion of the tent toward the inside, folding it over so it is not sticking out past the edges of the diameter of the tent. Leaving a door or window open will help in releasing any air caught inside the tent and make the folding easier.
Step 3
Fold the tent in half, exposing the bottom portion on one side. Sweep off any dirt that may be clinging to it. Wipe it off with a towel if necessary.
Step 4
Allow that side of the tent to air dry if it is damp. Moisture from body heat and the ground can build up on the bottom of the tent. Repeat this step for the other side of the tent, allowing it also to dry completely.
Step 5
Place your tent bag next to the side of the tent. This will give you an idea of how much folding you will need to do to get the tent to the size needed to fit back inside of the bag.
Step 6
Fold one half of the tent over to the center section, with the bottom facing up. Repeat this step for the other side of the tent.
Step 7
Fold the tent in half. Measure the bag against the sides of the tent to make sure it is folded enough to fit back inside it. If not, make another fold.
Step 8
Place your folded poles at one end of the tent. Begin rolling the poles and tent up together, being sure to roll them tightly together. This will make folding and placing the tent back into the bag easier and will also keep your poles securely in place for the next time they are needed.
Step 9
Continue rolling the tent until it is completely rolled up. Open the tent bag and place the tent inside it. If it is still too big, you may need to unfold it and fold it smaller or roll it up tighter.

Tips & Warnings

Never pack a tent away wet. If you must do so, open it up once you are home and allow it to dry before storing.
