How to Build a Lure Display Case

If you have antique or special lures that you don't plan to fish with, you might want to display them. You only need a few items to get started on a display case, and before you know it your lures will become a like pieces of art that you will be able to remove and use if you desire.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • 3 inch deep shadow box picture frame Velvet Water Soap Scissors Craft glue Staples Wire
  • 3 inch deep shadow box picture frame
  • Velvet
  • Water
  • Soap
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Staples
  • Wire
Step 1
Purchase a three-inch deep shadow box picture frame at your local department or craft store. This will allow enough space for the lures to hang uncramped.
Step 2
Buy a piece of velvet that will be big enough to line the back, inside portion of the shadow box. Choose any color that catches your eye.
Step 3
Clean the lures before placing them inside the box. A hot, soapy scrub will usually do the job. Allow the lures to dry completely.
Step 4
Remove the inside backing of the shadow box and cut your velvet to size. Be sure to leave several extra inches on all sides so you will be able to fold it over and tack it to the back. For example, if your backing is 12 inches by 12 inches, you will want your velvet piece to be at least 14 inches by 14 inches.
Step 5
Glue or staple the velvet to the back side of the backing. If you use staples, make sure they do not show through to the front. Be sure to pull the velvet tight as you glue it down. You do not want it to sag when the lures are placed on it. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Step 6
Attach your lures, evenly spaced, on the velvet backing. You don't have to remove the hooks and can use them to attach the lure to the velvet. If you remove the hooks, use a piece of wire to attach them.
Step 7
Starting on the underside of the velvet backing, push the wire through the velvet and through the lure hoop on top and then back through the velvet. Pull the wire tight and twist it together to hold the lure in place. Repeat these steps until you have all of your fishing lures attached on the velvet backing.
Step 8
Place the velvet backing back inside the shadow box with the lures attached. Your lure display case is now ready to be hung and enjoyed by all your fishing buddies.

Tips & Warnings

You can attach new hooks to the lures if you remove them and want to use the lure again for fishing. Don't use a color of velvet that is close to the color of your lures. A different color will make the lures "pop" in the case.
