The length of your skis is an important part of your skiing experience. There are several factors to consider, including your body height and the kind of skiing you will be doing. Using a ski length chart will help in finding the right ski length, but you shouldn't go off a chart alone.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step 1
Consult a chart to find a ski length range given your height and skill level. A 5' 10" person, for example, may use a ski length between 160 and 185 centimeters, depending on their skill level.
Step 2
Choose a length on the shorter end of the chart range if you are a beginner or out of shape. Children and beginners should use skis that go up to their chest or shoulder.
Step 3
Consider the slopes you will be riding down if you are renting skis. The steeper the slopes, the shorter you'll want your skis for more responsive braking.
Step 4
Switch to longer skis if you want to go faster and are not concerned about mobility. If you are uncomfortable with the speed you are traveling, use shorter skis.
