If you have a roll of masking tape and a plastic bottle in your gear bag, you will be able to make a tote bag. What size you make will depend on your requirements and how much tape you have. Most unused rolls should have approximately 60 yards of tape on them. With 60 yards you should be able to make a pretty nice sized tote bag. Once completed, you will be surprised at just how sturdy your little masking tape tote bag will be.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Plastic bottle Masking tape
  • Plastic bottle
  • Masking tape
Step 1
Find a plastic bottle of some type that is the size you would like your tote bag to be. However much room that is inside your bottle will be how big the inside of your tote bag will be. Taping several plastic bottles together will make the bag bigger inside. You are basically searching for a form to tape around to make your bag.
Step 2
Tear off approximately a 1-inch strip of masking tape. Place your roll of masking tape sticky side up on the center of the bottle and tape the end down.
Step 3
Pull the masking tape in a continuous stream around the bottle, making sure to catch the edge of the tape with the sticky surface of the tape already wrapped around the bottle. Do not wrap the neck portion of the bottle or make the opened end smaller than the body. Don't make your first covering of tape too tight. You will need to be able to pull the bottle out.
Step 4
Continue wrapping the tape around the body of the bottle and bottom section. Once you have covered the bottle with four to five wrappings of tape, you can then remove the bottle.
Step 5
Cut a strip of masking tape to the length you desire for the carrying strap. Place another strip the exact same length on top of it, sticky side facing up.
Step 6
Fold one edge of the tape toward the center and press down. Do this to the other side of the tape. Fold the entire piece of tape in half.
Step 7
Place the strap approximately an inch and a half from the top edge of the tote bag. Leave equal lengths of tape on each side. Tape the strap to the bag in several areas to hold it in place. Reinforce each section by taping over it several times.
Step 8
Fill your tote bag with items and pull the tape strap to close the top of the bag. Tie the end in a loose knot, if you desire.
