How to Travel in Wisconsin

How to Travel in Wisconsin
Wisconsin is located in the Midwest United States, bordering Minnesota (to the west), Iowa (southwest), Illinois (south) and Michigan (east). There are many ways to travel through Wisconsin--it has a highly developed transportation system that includes thousands of highways and roads, a detailed bus system in most cities and hundreds of airports and car rental agencies to choose from.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Decide which method of transportation you would like to use when traveling in Wisconsin. Major methods include personal vehicle, rental car, bus, train or air.
Step 2
Using your Internet connection, log into the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's website: dot.wisconsin.gov. On the middle right, see the category "Travel" with a list of options that include air, bicycle, bus/transit, cars, motorcycles, pedestrian, rail (train), trucks or waterways.
Step 3
Click on the form of transportation you're interested in; for example, for air travel, click on "Air." You will be take to a page that has relevant information about air travel, including all airports serving the state, with individual links to each.
Step 4
Purchase a map of Wisconsin, particularly if you are traveling by rental car or personal vehicle. Wisconsin contains 113,000 miles of state highways and local roads, and if you're going to spend significant time on the road there, a map is a handy tool. They are available at convenience stores, supermarkets and pharmacies throughout the state, as well as bookstores and department stores like Walmart and Target. Most are affordably priced at $10 or less.
Step 5
Map out your route. The clearer your plan is, the better. Wisconsin has many exciting things to see and do, including a state-of-the-art football stadiumthat is the home of the Green Bay Packers. They also have a new baseball stadium in Milwaukee, and a variety of cultural and historical exhibits in Madison, Milwaukee and throughout the state.

Tips & Warnings

Wisconsin winters can be brutal if you are not accustomed to traveling through snow. Be sure you know how to drive under extreme weather conditions if you are planning a winter drive through the state.
