How to Change the Batteries in a Polar Heart Rate Monitor

Wristwatch heart monitors by Polar monitor your heart rate as you participate in such strenuous sports as hiking, biking or skiing. When the battery in your Polar heart rate monitor dies, you have the choice of contacting Polar customer support and paying a fee to have it replaced or replacing it yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Optical-sized Phillips screwdriver
  • Optical-sized flathead screwdriver
  • Replacement CR2032 watch battery
Step 1
Use the optical-sized Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the four screws on the back cover of the Polar F11 Heart Rate Monitor. Set the screws aside and remove the back cover of the monitor.
Step 2
Remove the internal heart rate monitor unit from the watch casing. The unit should easily pull free from the watch casing. Set the watch casing aside.
Step 3
Use the optical-sized flathead screwdriver to pry up the latch that holds the battery in the monitor. Pry the old battery out using the optical-sized flathead screwdriver.
Step 4
Replace the old battery with a new CR2032 watch battery, which is available in the jewelry section of such discount stores as Wal-Mart, Kmart or Target.
Step 5
Bend the battery latch down over the new battery so that it is held securely in place. Slide the internal heart rate monitor unit back into the watch casing. Replace the monitor's back cover and use the optical-sized Phillips screwdriver to reinstall the four small screws.

Tips & Warnings

 
Keep a small magnet handy to hold the four screws so that they don't get lost while you're changing the battery in your monitor.
 
Completing this repair as described in this article may void the warranty on your Polar F11 Heart Rate Monitor. If you do not wish to void the warranty, contact Polar custom support to ask about its battery replacement service.
