How to Wash a Nike Backpack

How to Wash a Nike Backpack
The Nike Cheyenne and its six-product line of Nike Karst backpacks are designed for outdoor sporting enthusiasts. Ranging from $65-$200, depending on size and features, all are made from using nylon, polyester or recycled polyethylene terephthalate, a close relative of polyester. Backpack straps and reinforcements are made from leather, suede or polyester. Keep your backpack in tiptop shape by following manufacturer's directions for keeping it clean.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Washing machine
  • Laundry detergent
  • Small hand vacuum (optional)
Step 1
Set your washing machine to its cold water settings so that it both washes and rinses using cold water. If your washing machine has a setting designed for "delicates," select that.
Step 2
Open all of your backpack's compartments so that water can easily enter them.
Step 3
Add laundry detergent in accordance with your brand's directions for washing a smaller load.
Step 4
If you have a top-loading washer, let the water fill and mix with the detergent before placing the backpack into the washing machine and shutting the lid. If you have a side-loading washing machine simply add the backpack into the machine and close the lid.
Step 5
Start your washing machine and let it complete its cleaning cycle.
Step 6
Remove the backpack when the wash is complete and reshape it with your hands.
Step 7
Allow the backpack to air dry.

Tips & Warnings

Be sure to clean out the inside of your Nike backpack and its compartments before throwing it in the wash. Do this by hanging it upside down and shaking it or using a small hand vacuum to suck the contents out from the backpack's nooks and crannies.

Do not add bleach or use a detergent with bleach on your Nike backpack. Bleach is a harsh product, and when it is used on polyester or nylon it can not only change the color but ruin the texture of the fabric.
