How to Compare Flight Prices to Maputo

Maputo is a city in the south part of African country Mozambique. While it's still considered a developing area, tourism abounds in the city. In addition to a world-class coastline and various beaches, the city offers street vendors and festivals, and historical monuments to religious figures. Finding a flight to the city is relatively easy, and by using a variety of sources, you can secure the best possible rate.

Step 1

Start with a travel agent. Tourism in Africa is big business for travel companies. While a lot of that tourism is focused on safari adventures, you may be able to secure low rates with a travel agent--especially if you plan to travel with a large group. Similarly, while the Internet has an inordinate number of sites to search fares, travel agents have connections with airlines and might be able to work out travel deals that are unavailable to internet customers.

Step 2

Begin an Internet search at Kayak.com. This website is devoted to price comparisons. Once you put in your travel dates and locations, you have the option of opening new windows for sites like Priceline, Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz. Instead of researching fares at each of these sites, you can review prices and seats with only one click. Make sure you're adept at toggling between windows or else this process can be overwhelming.

Step 3

Check tripadvisor.com. This site allows you to search fares, but it also gives recommendations on airlines, hotels and car rental agencies. The forums on tripadvisor gives the site a more human feel, and you can compare the reviews of other customers--even those who've traveled to Maputo.

Step 4

Do extensive research. Europe is well-known for cheap flights. Some travel-savvy customers have arranged cheaper flights to Africa by flying through Europe on such low-cost airlines. Also, make sure to do this research at least six months prior to your trip. The earlier you book, the cheaper the rates will be.
