LL Bean Microlight Tent Instructions

LL Bean Microlight Tent Instructions
LL Bean Microlight Tents are the ultralight backpacking arm of LL Bean's tent line. Available in solo and two-person editions, the Microlights are hoop-style tents that feature two separate pole arches. These double-walled tents have a mesh body, tub floor and separate fly. Available in the $100 to $150 range, these tents are an inexpensive and lightweight option (2 lb., 15 oz. and 3 lb., 12 oz.). The clip-style tents make set-up quick and seamless.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Tent body
  • Tent poles
  • Fly
  • Stakes
Step 1
Find a dry, level spot with proper drainage (not near the bottom of a hill) and clear it out. Specifically, clear any twigs, sticks, rocks and other debris that could puncture the tent or cause nighttime discomfort. Lay down the footprint or ground sheet. LL Bean recommends you use the footprint with the tent (sold separately). While this is optional, it is always a good idea, especially for an ultralight tent. Lay your tent down and pull out each corner so that it is flat and stretched out.
Step 2
Grab your poles and assemble each one by inserting the shock-corded segments together. Be sure that each segment is fitted snugly to the next. Begin with the larger pole. Insert each end of the tent into a grommet on either side of the front end (higher side). Then, attach the clips on the tent to the pole. Move to the lower rear end and repeat for the short pole using the rear grommets and clips.
Step 3
Attach the fly (for windy, rainy or otherwise inclement weather). Throw it over your assembled tent so that the door/vestibule aligns with the door on your tent. Try for even coverage over the tent. The LL Bean logo should be to the right of the door.
Step 4
Begin at the rear and pull the webbing from the fly under the tent webbing and insert the pole through the fly grommet. Then move around in one direction and attach the fly at all six corners. Fully secure the fly using the hook loops to wrap the fly securely to the pole.
Step 5
Stake the tent. Begin at the front vestibule and pull the fly taut and pound the stake through each loop. Work around the tent and pound a stake through each loop on the tent and fly until it is fully taut and secured in place.
