Northwest Territory Tent Instructions

Northwest Territory Tent Instructions
The Northwest Territories lie in the upper northwest of Canada. The territory is made up of the mainland, which is connected to the rest of Canada, and several different islands which stretch much farther north. Camping in the area will most likely be done in the summer, where the nights are hospitable. The winters are cold and typically in the negative-degree range.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Tent/arctic tent
  • Tarps
  • Hammer
Step 1
Find a location that is near other shelter such as large trees, hills or large rocks. These will help provide a natural barrier from the wind.
Step 2
Lay the tarps down on the ground where you will be setting up the tent. This will help prevent any water from soaking up into the tent.
Step 3
Begin setting up your tent over the tarp. There are a wide range of tents, each set up slightly differently. However, during the winter you will want to have an arctic tent. These style of tents are designed to withstand the cold and can even accommodate an oven for heat.
Step 4
Hammer in the tent spikes with a hammer, making sure the tent lines are tight. The ground will most likely be hard, so simply pressing it down with you hands and feet will not work. Even with the hammer it may be challenging.
Step 5
Keep all windows and doors zipped all the way up at all times. This will help keep out the wind and snow, and most importantly retain the heat.
