Planning a Trip to the Grand Canyon or the Redwood Forest

Step 1
Make a list and decide on the sights that you want to see at the Grand Canyon and the Redwood Forest. This list will help you in determining how many days you may need to take for your vacation. For example:

Rafting, hiking, swimming and camping, are just some of the adventures you can experience with a Grand Canyon Whitewater Rafting sightseeing adventure tour. These tours can take up to three days or longer.

Enderts Beach Road in the Redwood Forest offers visitors a scenic drive and the opportunity to take in the beauty of the ocean and whale watching. This wonderful scenic drive can last one to two hours.
Step 2
Determine what type of lodging you want. Would you prefer to camp in a tent or RV at a campground such as the Jedediah Smith campgrounds in the Red Forest? Perhaps you would rather stay at a lodge such as the Yavapai Lodge, the Grand Canyon's largest facility, surrounded by Pinyon and Juniper woodlands.
Step 3
Decide on how you will get to the Redwood Forest and the Grand Canon as well as your transportation needs. You may want to rent a car to enjoy the different sights such as the Grand Canyon's Tusayan Museum. Keep in mind driving to the Grand Canyon or the Redwood Forest would make a fun and educational family road trip. However, if time is of the essence flying is the best choice. The Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport is 231 miles from the South Rim entrance and the closest major airport for the Grand Canyon. There are two airports that you can choose for the Redwood Forest, the Eureka Arcata Airport and the Crescent City Airport.
Step 4
Decide when you want to take your vacation. Summers are mild and the winters are cool with a large amount of precipitation in the Redwood Forest. The Grand Canyon experiences a variety of weather conditions due to its elevation. For example, summer temperatures on the North Rim are high and on the South Rim they can be mild. However at night the temperature can drop near freezing on the North Rim and into the 60s on the South Rim.
Step 5
Familiarize yourself with the wildlife that inhabit both the Grand Canyon and the Redwood Forest for your safety. Each national park has different types of wildlife that roam free. Mountain lions inhabit the canyons and forest at the Grand Canyon National park and bears live in the Redwood Forrest. For a list of wildlife that inhabits the Grand Canyon and Redwood Forest check with the local Visitors Center.
