How to Use a Schwinn Bicycle Pump

How to Use a Schwinn Bicycle Pump
Before going on any bike trip, no matter how far or how long it is, you will want to make sure your tires are fully inflated. Slightly deflated tires not only make it harder to pedal, but you can end up damaging the tires. Instead of taking your bike to a nearby gas station with an air pump, the Schwinn bicycle pump is a much more convenient tool.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Schwinn bicycle pump
  • bike
Step 1
Flip out the kick stand on the bike so it can stand on its own.
Step 2
Locate the air valves on the tires of the bike. There will be one on each tire, located somewhere on the inside of the wheel. Twist off the caps but keep them handy because you will not want to lose them.
Step 3
Unlock the hose on the Schwinn bicycle pump. This can be done by flipping up the plastic lock which is on the end of the hose.
Step 4
Press the hose over the air valve of the bike. You will begin to hear some air escaping from the tire. Flip the plastic lock back down and this will prevent any more air from escaping.
Step 5
Push the handle of the Schwinn bicycle pump all the way down, then raise up to its full extension and push down again. Schwinn pumps either come in large sizes, which allow you to hold down the pump via a foot stand and press down (it looks somewhat like a pogo stick), and smaller, portable pumps which have no foot holders but still allow you to pump in the same fashion.
Step 6
Stop pumping when the tires are firm enough. You can tell this by pressing down on the tires with your hand. A little give is fine, because if the tire is overinflated you run the risk of popping the tire. Remove the hose from the tire valves and screw the plastic caps back on the valves.
