How to Remove Rust From Bicycle Handles

How to Remove Rust From Bicycle Handles
Do you have a bicycle that has been through some tough conditions? Or maybe you have rescued a bike from the junk pile and want to restore it. Rusty handlebars are a common problem in these situations, but they can usually be saved. You only need some basic materials and some elbow grease to bring these handlebars back to life with a shiny chrome finish that is just like new.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Fine steel wool
  • Liquid chrome polish
  • Clean rags
Step 1
Apply some of the metal polish to the steel wool and begin to rub the rusty parts of the handlebars. Use a firm back and forth motion along the length of the handlebars. Continue until you see the rust removed.
Step 2
Wipe away all of the residue, and polish with a clean rag. Try to leave the bars relatively clean, but don't buff them yet.
Step 3
Apply a liberal dose of the chrome polish to another clean rag, and apply it all over the handlebars, but focus more on the spots where there was rust.
Step 4
Allow the polish to dry to a haze, then use another clean rag to buff it to a glossy shine.
