How to Clean a Wetsuit

mikebaird on Flickr

As your wetsuit gets older, it will shrink and stiffen. Not taking care of it properly will accelerate this process and encourage the growth of mildew. You can't clean a wetsuit like any other piece of clothing, but that doesn't mean it's difficult to do. In fact, depending on how you want to do it, cleaning a wetsuit can be as easy as cleaning yourself--literally.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Wetsuit Water Soap
  • Wetsuit
  • Water
  • Soap
Step 1
Place your wetsuit in a tub filled with water. Let it soak for an hour so salts can dissolve.
Step 2
Drain the tub and rinse out under running water. Hang up to dry, preferably outside.
Step 3
Hang it up outside and spray with a water hose if you don't want to soak it in a tub.
Step 4
Get into the shower wearing your wetsuit and wash your body with soap like you would normally do. Rinse off, remove your wetsuit and hang it up to dry.

Tips & Warnings

Do not put your wetsuit in a washing machine. Do not pack away your wetsuit before it is completely dry.
