How to Pack for Air Travel

How to Pack for Air Travel
With increased security guidelines due to terrorist attacks, packing for air travel has become complicated and frustrating. However, by familiarizing yourself with TSA (Transportation Security Administration) procedures and prohibited items, you'll be able to breeze through airport security and enjoy your flight.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • One-quart sealing plastic bag Carry-on bag Briefcase, purse or handbag
  • One-quart sealing plastic bag
  • Carry-on bag
  • Briefcase, purse or handbag
Step 1
Plan out your outfits before you begin packing. Don't forget toiletries and miscellaneous items (like shoes). Make an inventory list and check things off as you begin to pack.
Step 2
Keep all necessities on your person when traveling by plane. This includes: passport, wallet, other vital documents, cell phone, keys and plane tickets. While these do not have to be in your pockets, they should be in the briefcase or purse under the seat in front of you.
Step 3
Roll your clothes if you're opting not to check any baggage. Some airlines are now charging checked bag fees, and customers are attempting to stuff everything into a carry-on. To maximize space, roll all shirts, pants and pairs of underwear.
Step 4
Try "bundle" packing. This involves rolling items of clothing around a solid object to eliminate creases. One of the best objects to use for this technique is a plastic shampoo bottle -- just be sure the cap is on securely.
Step 5
Make sure all your toiletries are in 3 ounce (or less) containers, and are stored in a one quart sealed plastic bag. This is the new restriction mandated by TSA.
Step 6
Weigh the bags you plan to check. Make sure to double-check the weight restrictions for your particular airline. You do not want to be saddled with an extra fee at the airport.
