How to Clean Canvas on a Camper

How to Clean Canvas on a Camper
The key to cleaning pop-up tents and canvas awnings on a camper is to care for them regularly. If you don't take care of your camper canvas, mold, mildew and even rodent and insect infestations can develop. If you are diligent enough to clean your canvas every time you go camping, maintenance will be easy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Soft brush Water Sponge Non-lanolin soap
  • Soft brush
  • Water
  • Sponge
  • Non-lanolin soap
Step 1
Clean the canvas in a cool, dry place such as inside a garage. This will allow it to dry so that it doesn't attract mold and mildew
Step 2
Remove any damp clothes, food, or other items that could attract mold from your camper, and especially from the area around the inside of the canvas.
Step 3
Remove any debris or dirt from the canvas with a brush. Then, wash off the top of the canvas with a sponge and water. If you have any really stubborn dirt, you can use mild non-lanolin soap flakes.
Step 4
Check the seals around the pop-up tent. Make sure none of them are cracked or missing.
Step 5
Leave the canvas unpacked in an area with good airflow until it is completely dry. Then, pack it away again.

Tips & Warnings

Don't use bleach or detergents on your canvas, unless the owner's manual specifies that you should. You can damage or ruin the waterproof coating on the canvas. Never leave the canvas stored wet.
