How to Troubleshoot a Coleman Heater

How to Troubleshoot a Coleman Heater
Coleman makes a number of different products designed for outdoor use, including heaters. If you have a Coleman heater, you may need to troubleshoot the product in case something happens or the product stops working. There are a few things you can do to troubleshoot your heater and get it working again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Check the heat sources you're using with the Coleman heater and make sure it's the right type for your heater. If you use the wrong gas, the heater won't work correctly. It may leak fuel, not produce as much heat or stop working completely.
Step 2
Turn the heater off and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. This gives the heater time to cool down completely. Then turn the heater back on and see if it's working right. If you run a Coleman heater continuously, it may overheat and you'll need to give it time to cool down.
Step 3
Take the entire Coleman heater apart after turning it off. Spray canned air into the different components, including the heating coil and cover. The canned air pushes out any debris or dust, which may prevent it from working correctly. Put the heater back together and see if that was the cause of the problem.
Step 4
Follow the instructions carefully to ensure you put the heater together correctly. If even one piece is put in the wrong spot or is damaged in any way, the heater won't function properly. You'll need to inspect each piece carefully before putting it back together.

Tips & Warnings

Call Coleman directly if the heater still fails to work at (800) 835-3278. There's a chance that it might be something more serious, such as a faulty part, and the company can help you order the necessary parts. In some circumstances, the company may require that you send the heater back for servicing. Keep in mind that Coleman heaters come with a 5-year warranty. If the warranty still covers the heater, the company will fix it for free without any cost to you.
