How to Wax a Toboggan

peupleloup on Flickr

It is important to keep a toboggan's underside waxed. This helps protect the wood, making the toboggan last longer, but it also reduces friction with the snow, creating a faster ride. By applying wax you can find at many outdoor sports stores, you can have a faster ride and preserve your toboggan for years to come.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Toboggan wax Old newspapers Wet rag Wax scraper
  • Toboggan wax
  • Old newspapers
  • Wet rag
  • Wax scraper
Step 1
Bring your toboggan indoors or to a heated area to apply the wax. Cover the area with newspapers and place the toboggan upside down.
Step 2
Clean off the board underside with a wet rag to remove any sediments or dust.
Step 3
Cover the entire underside in a thin coat of wax.
Step 4
Remove excess wax with the scraper tool, holding it at a 45-degree angle as it moves across the board.
Step 5
Check for any dry spots where the wax is too thin or has been totally scraped away by the scraper tool. Reapply a coat, if necessary, and scrape away the excess wax. When there are no rough spots, the toboggan is waxed.
