How to Download Map Updates on a Garmin C330 GPS

Global positioning system (GPS) devices like the Garmin C330 can be very helpful to bikers or hikers exploring lesser-known roads. But as quickly as the world changes, GPS companies must keep pace and provide up-to-date maps for travelers to keep them on the right path. Garmin offers one free map update with every purchase of a GPS unit.

Step 1

Download the Garmin Communicator Plugin.

Step 2

Connect your GPS unit to your computer using the USB cord that came with the system. Give your computer a few moments to recognize the new hardware connected. If you do not have a cord to connect your GPS, enter the serial number of the unit into the box provided.

Step 3

Wait for the page to reload. It will then tell you whether you are eligible for a free map download. If you are, click download, and then confirm it. Be aware that this may be the only free map update you will be eligible for.

Step 4

Let the maps download onto the GPS. If you did not have the cord and are downloading via satellite, this could take several hours. When the download is complete, the GPS will restart itself. When restarts, your map update will be fully installed.
