If you really want to see the landscape around you on your trip, go in an RV. You will get the full experience of the surrounding countryside and sights along the way. You will also have all of your needs contained inside the RV. RVs are heavy and can be tricky to drive, but there's no better way to see the country than by driving through it. If you plan your driving route well, your trip should take off without a hitch.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Road maps
  • Road maps
Step 1
Consider where you are going and how much time you have to spend at your destination. Figure out if you'll be staying at one or several places along the way. You'll be better prepared to plan how much driving time will be required.
Step 2
Purchase maps of the area you are traveling to and the areas you'll be driving through to get there. These will help you plan your driving route.
Step 3
Run a computerized map program to your destination and compare it against the route you plan to take. Check for any differences in times and miles and see if the map program warns against complications along the proposed driving route.
Step 4
Figure out whether you want to drive the RV on major highways or on more scenic routes, which may take longer.
Step 5
Consider the driving capabilities of everyone who will be traveling in the RV and if they have experience driving one. In the event of an emergency, you'll need more than one person who is able to drive.
Step 6
Consider the road conditions you will be driving the RV through to get to your destination. Hills, steep slopes, mountains and congested areas will need to be considered when planning your driving route.
Step 7
Check for RV parks or camping areas along your planned route, if you're breaking up your driving over several days. Get information from these parks so you'll be prepared and have a place to stay.
Step 8
Consider the size and engine capabilities of the RV you will be driving. You don't want to drive it into an area that it won't be able to fit or handle.

Tips & Warnings

Always use caution when driving an RV up and down steep grades.
