Take your Nuvi 205 to the trails and get point-by-point guidance to your backpacking destination. The GPS device is useful for navigation by walking or driving and easily fits in your pocket for mobility. Make sure to charge the lithium-ion battery for longer trips out on the wild. Additionally, the device has a "Where Am I?" emergency locator, a feature that allows you to always determine your location in case you lose your path.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step 1
Go to an open area, away from trees and other obstructions and turn on your Nuvi 205.
Step 2
Look at the satellite signal on the top left corner of the screen and wait for your device to acquire signal strength. The green bars indicate the satellite strength. Wait for at least one bar to appear.
Step 3
Use the pedestrian mode for backpacking. Touch the "Tools" icon then "Settings," then "System" and "Usage Mode." Choose "Pedestrian" and select "Okay."
Step 4
Enter the longitude and latitude coordinates of your backpacking destination. From the home screen, touch "Where to?" and select "Coordinates." Enter the information and touch "Next."
Step 5
Enter your backpacking destination address if you do not have your geographical coordinates. From the home screen, touch "Where to?" then enter the address of your desired location and touch "Go" to start your route.
Step 6
Get to your route by following the magenta line on the screen map. As you hike, your Nuvi 205 will guide you to your desired location with voice prompts, map arrows and directions on top of the screen. Watch out for the checkered flag that marks your end route.
