Kelty manufactures tents that suit midrange campers from backcountry hikers needing a light one-man shelter, to families camping out at their local state park. The tents are all variations of the modern dome tent, with aluminum poles and polyester taffeta tent bodies. The tents use a color-coding system, clips and buckles to make setup simple and fast. No guylines are needed for Kelty tents in normal weather conditions, but rings are attached in case campers want to add guylines during extreme-weather camping.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Mallet
Step 1
Select a location that is smooth and level to set up your tent. Clear away stones and branches that could tear the tent floor or cause uncomfortable lumps under your sleeping bag.
Step 2
Put the poles together, fitting the tubes into each other. Set aside.
Step 3
Spread out the tent body, making sure the door will face the appropriate direction when finished.
Step 4
Slide one of the black poles into a diagonal sleeve on the tent. Repeat with the other black pole for the second diagonal sleeve. This should form an X across the top of the tent.
Step 5
Insert the ends of the poles into the corner grommets. You may need to flex the poles to make them fit. Attach tent clips to the poles to secure the tent body to the frame.
Step 6
Secure the tent by driving stakes through the corner rings and hammering into the ground at an angle with your mallet.
Step 7
Drape the rain fly over the tent body with the fly zipper over the door. Insert the orange brow pole into the fly's grommets on either side of the door. Secure with the Velcro tabs on the underside of the fly.
Step 8
Attach the fly to the tent frame with the attached buckles--one end of the buckle is on each corner of the fly, the other end of the buckle is on the tent stake corner straps. Tighten the straps until the fly does not sag.
Step 9
Complete the vestibule by staking out away from the tent body.
