Homestead campgrounds are located across the United States. With campgrounds nestled between wooded areas, lakes and rivers, as well as near the ocean, you can find a homestead campground right for you and your family. These campgrounds feature a variety of site amenities and are available to rent for several days or a season, depending on your preference. Not all homestead campgrounds are subject to the same operating rules, so inquire about specifics before booking.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Tent
  • RV
  • Camping supplies
Step 1
Choose a campground that permits homestead camping and has the facilities necessary to support homestead living. Choose sites that are especially designed for families or for singles.
Step 2
Consider the location of the campground. An oceanfront campground in a holiday region that is not designed for large motor homes may be too overcrowded for your liking, whereas a countryside campground with child-friendly wooded tent and trailer sites may be more appropriate.
Step 3
Ensure that the homestead campground is equipped with electrical hookups, hot showers and flush toilets. On-site sanitation stations and gas tanks make maintaining an RV easier while at the campground.
Step 4
Enjoy property amenities such as hiking trails, fishing ponds and playground areas for small children. Other common amenities include picnic tables, public pay phones and laundry facilities.
Step 5
Visit local farm stands and vendors for locally grown produce and food products, which you can prepare on site. Shopping on or near the property will save on gas costs.
Step 6
Pay the daily, weekly or monthly rate to reserve your tent, hook-up or pull-through spot. Some homestead campgrounds offer full or partial refunds with sufficient advance notice of a cancellation.

Tips & Warnings

Whether homesteading for a day, an entire season or a year, take advantage of local attractions and public transportation.
