RV cabins sometimes get stale and dank due to the small living space and poorly ventilated quarters. Roof vents, such as those made by Elixir, help aerate the RV, keeping you and your party enjoying fresher air that circulates. Vents wear out over time, making it necessary to change or replace them. Replacing an Elixir roof vent is a straightforward process that requires a few hours and basic tools and materials.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Ladder
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • Bucket with warm soapy water
  • Sponge
  • Paper towels or cloths
  • Power screwdriver
  • Caulk gun with silicone caulk
Step 1
Climb on the roof of your RV and find the Elixir vent. Unscrew the vent with either a handheld or power screwdriver. Save the screws and set them aside. Pry up the old vent using the flathead screwdriver. Take care not to rip the RV roof surface with the flathead screwdriver blade.
Step 2
Set the old vent aside and wash away any debris or gunk accumulated in the vent area. Wash the area with the soapy water, towel off and let dry.
Step 3
Set the new vent with the attachment washer into the RV roof vent hole. Align the screw holes on the roof with the washer holes on the Elixir vent. Use the power screwdriver to set the roof vent washer and attachment in place. Pop the Elixir roof vent top onto the attachment washer and vent bottom, listening for the snap to indicate it is locked in position.
Step 4
Seal the vent hole area and washer with the caulk gun and silicone caulk. Let dry.
Step 5
Go inside the RV and seal the roof vent with another layer of silicone caulking and let dry.
