Arctic oven tents are utilized for extreme cold weather camping. Though sometimes used as a four-season tent, the arctic oven series provides adequate shelter during conditions commonly encountered in the pole regions. Using an inner tent and outer shell with near vertical walls, the arctic tent series provides a condensation-free environment that enables campers to rest away from the bitterness of exterior elements. Whether planning an arctic expedition or mushing dogs over frozen tundra, these tents are worth considering.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step 1
Search for an appropriate place to raise the tent. Choose a level area free of roots and remove rocks and other debris. Pick a spot sheltered from the wind whenever possible. Select a space that is at least slightly larger than the tent.
Step 2
Assemble the four partially connected shock-cord poles. Snap the sections of pole together by aligning with the adjacent section of pole. The shock-cord will pull the sections together.
Step 3
Search for the nylon line at the bottom end of each pole for manual assembly during extremely cold weather. Shock cord elasticity can be compromised in bitter cold. Pull the nylon line to draw the sections of each pole together and insert sections together by hand as necessary.
Step 4
Lay the tent flat on the ground. Insert the top of one pole into the spider connection at the peak of the tent. Connect the bottom end of the pole by inserting a pin from one corner of the tent. Attach the second pole diagonally across from the first pole while the tent is still on the ground. Insert the pin into the bottom of the pole as before.
Step 5
Insert the third pole into the spider and the pin at the tent corner in the same manner. Raise the spider off the ground with one hand. Insert the top of the fourth pole into the spider with the opposite hand. Insert the pin into the base of the pole in the same manner.
Step 6
Locate the O-rings on the top of the tent at each corner. Attach the O-rings to the hooks fastened to the top of each pole. Locate the side release buckles attached to each pole, approximately three feet from the bottom of the pole. Attach these buckles to the poles.
Step 7
Locate the outer tent shell. Place the shell over the tent and poles. Attach S-hooks located at the bottom corners of the shell to the bottom of the tent poles.
Step 8
Locate the three spring hooks on the inside of the shell along the back and sides. Attach the spring hooks to the O-rings located on the outside of the tent.
Step 9
Stake the tent to the ground. Locate the flaps along the bottom of the tent and extend them away from the tent fully. Pile snow on top of these flaps to further seal the tent from harsh weather.

Tips & Warnings

Seal all nylon seams that may be exposed to water well before erecting the tent for the first time.

Lightly lube zippers with silicone to prevent them from sticking in low temperatures.

This tent has limited ventilation. Never use propane, gas or any type of fuel-based equipment while inside the tent. Under no circumstances should vent holes be closed, as this can result in a lack of air.
