Pinnacle Plus fishing reels come in four different varieties. There are bait, spin, "ultralite" and big-water styles, all with distinct and different uses. Pinnacle has been making fishing reels for decades and its reels feature the Super 10 Drag System, a triple-support main shaft, multi-stack drag washers, tandem cast control (TCC), and quick-access side plates, giving easy access to the spool. Using your Pinnacle reel requires some set-up and practice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Fishing rod
  • Lure or tackle
Step 1
Slide the reel foot into the rod's foot sleeve and clamp it down to secure the Pinnacle reel to the rod. Screw the fasteners to the right to tighten and lock the Pinnacle reel into place. Make sure the reel is placed either on top of the rod, aligned with the metal fishing guides, or directly below, where the reel is on the opposite side of the guides. Keep spin- and bait-casters to the top of the rod.
Step 2
Pull out the fishing line from the spool on the Pinnacle reel and thread through the fishing guides. Tie a hook or lure to the end of the line using a palomar knot. Let out 6 to 8 inches of line from the tip of the rod using the bail release mechanism on the PInnacle reel. The bail cast mechanism looks like a curved piece of metal, hugging half the reel. Push it up toward your body to release and down to the reel to lock.
Step 3
Press the thumb cast button on the Pinnacle reel if using a bait caster. Bring your arm with the rod up over your shoulder slowly, and with a quick snapping motion whip the rod down in front of you with the thumb resting on the cast switch, leaving it open.
Step 4
Let the lure fly out over the water. When the lure hits the water begin turning the reel handle clockwise. This automatically locks the cast mechanism down, letting you retrieve. Turn the Pinnacle reel handle until the lure or hook gets to the tip of the rod.
Step 5
Press the drag system on the Pinnacle reel, found on the outer left edge of Pinnacle reels, to adjust the line tension upon fish strikes. Push the drag system button to the right to tighten the drag, and turn it to the left to loosen the drag.
