Fishing poles, especially expensive ones, are best protected during travel by placing them in non-crushable holders. This will allow you to pack the rods with little worry about possible damage. Fishing pole containers can be made out of several materials; however, a hard plastic of some type is a good choice due to its light weight and durability. Pole holders can be made quickly with the correct supplies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • ABS pipe
  • ABS pipe cement
  • Pipe caps
  • Tape measure
  • Sandpaper
Step 1
Cut a piece of ABS pipe to fit your rod while the pole is broken apart. Measure the rod to check the length you need. Make sure the pipe is wide enough for the rod as well. Check before buying the pipe, by measuring the distance from the rod out to the biggest line guide. Use sandpaper to smooth out the cut end of the pipe so there are no rough spots.
Step 2
Slide the rod into the pipe to make sure the ends of the rod fit inside and that you can get the rod inside without forcing it.
Step 3
Put ABS glue on the inside of one of the caps and on one end of the pipe, sliding the pipe into the cap. This end will stay closed. Slide the other cap onto the other end without gluing it. This is the end you can take on and off to get the fishing rod in and out.
