How Do I Get My Fishing License in Alaska?

Anglers need a license to fish in Alaska, but obtaining one is an easy task for residents and out-of-state visitors alike. However, before you cast your line into the water, you should review the fishing regulations so you are familiar with which fish and how many are allowed to be kept, along with any size restrictions. Violations in the state sometimes are punishable by fine.

Step 1

Contact the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for a license. You can download the application for an Alaska fishing license and mail it in.

Step 2

Log on to the Alaska Fish and Game website and apply online for a fishing license. You will be able to print out proof of purchase at the end of the process.

Step 3

Go to a vendor in Alaska that offers licenses for sale and purchase one there. This is the quickest way to get a license if you are in the state. Sporting goods stores, charter services and other fishing-related consumer-oriented locations offer licenses for sale.

Step 4

Pay the appropriate fee. Fees are based on what kind of license you purchase, such as in-state or out-of-state. A license will be mailed to you within a month for mail-in and online applications.
