If you are a fishing enthusiast, you more than likely have quite a few fishing rods, some of which may be quite expensive. It is best to keep these valuable tools stored safely out of the way, so that they aren't damaged carelessly by others around you. To do this, you will need a wall rack or a similar storage system. Racks are available for sale at sporting goods stores, but it is also possible, and fairly easy, to build a rod wall rack by yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • 1x4 board
  • Wood stain
  • Rags
  • Bristle paint brush
  • Wood seal
  • Sand paper
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • C-type bracket
Step 1
Cut a 1x4 board to the length you need. You will need two boards for the project--one for each end of the fishing rods.
Step 2
Sand the boards with a fine sand paper to remove the rough edges and round them a bit.
Step 3
Stain the boards with the wood stain color that you prefer, then seal them with a polyurethane. Use a rag to apply the stain in the direction of the grain, and another rag to wipe off the excess. A bristle paintbrush can also be used to apply the stain, as well as the seal.
Step 4
Attach the brackets to the boards, so that they are evenly spaced. Make sure that all of the C-type brackets are facing in the same direction. The boards will be placed on the wall so that the length is vertical, and all the open ends of the brackets need to face toward one of the short ends of the boards. Use a drill to aid with the attachment. It is best to make pilot holes before using screws, so that you don't split the wood.
Step 5
Drill pilot holes in the four corners of each of the boards. Set one of the boards in the location where you want it on the wall, so that the board's length is vertical to the floor, then drill one screw through the board and into the wall. Use a level to adjust the board so that it is level, and then drill in a second screw. Finish by drilling in the remaining two screws. Repeat the process with the other board, making sure it is the same distance from the ceiling. This will insure that the boards are parallel.
