When angling for bluegill, rig your fishing line in natural lakes, large border rivers, and reservoirs, where the largemouth bass can also be found. Using homemade fishing bait for bluegill, drop your line to the bottom--depending on the season--and wait for superior strikes.

Bluegill are most active during the spring and early summer, so rig your line with homemade bluegill bait and fish waters 2 to 6 feet deep. The fall and winter seasons require bottom fishing but at different depths. During the fall season, weather changes require you to set your line at intermediary depths between the bottom and the surface. As the winter season approaches, go deep and fish close to the bottom for superior strikes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Obtain six earthworms from your backyard or garden. Carry the worms into the house and cut them into small pieces using a knife. Drop the pieces in a plastic bowl and add 1 cup flour.
Step 2
Add a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of vanilla extract for flavoring. Add a splash of red food coloring.
Step 3
Pour in 1/2 cup of canned corn and drain if not already drained.
Step 4
Mix the ingredients together. As the mixture starts to stick and shape into dough, add teaspoons of water to eliminate dryness.
Step 5
Warm the dough balls in a microwave for 30 seconds.
Step 6
Scoop dime-size balls out of the dough using a teaspoon.
Step 7
Store the dough balls inside a plastic container. Keep cool in a cooler or refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings

Dough balls can be frozen.
